We put together a bit of info about July's Full Buck Super Moon, as well as helpful info for your next full moon!
The July Full Moon is known as the Buck Moon, because this is the time of year when the male deer begins to grow antlers for the rutting season ahead. The male deer shed their antlers every winter, and grow a new set every summer, each year’s more impressive than the last. In Astrology, the Buck Moon represents new challenges and growth. Seeds you’ve sewn and tended throughout the preceding 6 months have begun to fruit. This is why the July full moon is also known as the Blessing Moon. But, with the blessings of fruit come challenges; garden pests and predators tend to cause more issues at this time. Because this year’s Buck moon is also a Super Moon (Meaning the moon is slightly closer to Earth, and will appear extra large and bright in our night sky), both the blessings and the challenges are likely to be intensified. This moon cycle will last from July 13th until August 11th. During this time, it’s important to stop procrastinating on certain projects, because those left undone will be where your most difficult challenges arise. This is a time to fix, finish, and finalize.
Three of the most powerful crystals to have on hand for any moon ritual include Moonstone, Labradorite, and Selenite. For this Full Buck Moon, we also recommend having Smokey Quartz and Celestite on hand. Smokey Quartz for it’s protective, grounding, and clarifying energies. Celestite for it’s ability to purify energy and heighten awareness, while still offering tranquil vibrations. We will make another post with more crystal specific info in the future!
A few other Full Moon Ritual Tools to keep on hand:
Smudge: Whether you use smoke from sage, incense, Palo Santo, other dried herbs, or in other ways, such as with cleansing spray, salt, or specific sound frequencies, the cleansing and purification brought by a smudge are important.
Journal: Full Moon journaling is a wonderful time to reflect on things we would like to ‘Marie Kondo’ right out of our lives! The full moon is a perfect time to rid ourselves of what’s no longer serving us.
Divination: A pendulum is a helpful tool for dowsing, which is a form of divination thought to be especially effective during a Full Moon. Tarot and Oracle cards are also helpful divining tools.
Protection: Protective and grounding objects and charms are always nice to have around, even more so during a full moon!
Some other beneficial full moon activities include:
Cleaning and Organizing your space: The full moon is a perfect time for getting rid of clutter, sweeping the floors, and dusting the cobwebs! Smudging your space after it is clean and organized feels especially calming.
A Purification Bath (or Shower!): Break out the bath salts, essential oils, bath bombs, and shower steamers! Add in a few candles for maximum enjoyment and effectiveness. (Tip: Use candle colors related to things you would like to work on, achieve, remove, or manifest!)
Set up a celestial charging station: While a safe and private outdoor space is best, a window will do! Use the light of the moon to charge your crystals and divination tools! Be sure to cleanse them first, via smudging, water, or salt, but definitely make sure whichever element you choose is safe for the object you intend to cleanse.
Make Moon Water: Moon Water is made by leaving a vessel of water under a full moon to absorb the moon’s energy. Moon Water can be used in the same ways water can be used, but the energy of the moon adds a bit of high vibe magic!
