Sturgeon Full Moon in Aquarius!

The last Supermoon of 2022 begins tonight! This full moon falls under the astrological sign of Aquarius, and is known as the Sturgeon Moon. Read on for more details and an easy full moon ritual!

The full Sturgeon Moon begins tonight, Thursday, August 11, 2022. It will be the last "Supermoon" of the year! August’s full Moon was so named the 'Sturgeon Moon' by Indigenous Americans because the giant sturgeon fish of the Great Lakes were most readily caught during this part of summer. Other names for this moon include the Green Corn Moon, Grain Moon, Lynx Moon, Dispute Moon, and the Lightning Moon.

With this full moon, you will begin to either see the fruits of your labor take shape, or realize your garden has been neglected. There is still time to improve your harvest for the year if you feel it is lacking! Generally, this moon is seen as a signal that abundance is impending, provided that one has done the work.

August's full moon is in Aquarius. This could have you feeling a little more spontaneous and rebellious than usual. You may crave freedom and distraction from the mundane. If you’ve been stuck in a rut, this is a good time to make big changes in your life, though it is important to sit with these decisions before taking action. The full moon is a good time for release but Aquarius influence may cause rash decisions, so reflection is ideal. Venus also enters Leo on this day, which may inspire creativity, passion and a need for socialization, while also leading us to examine the loyalty of our confidants on a deeper level.

For this full moon, a “Burn and Release” ritual is in order! This simple ritual does not need to be religious in any way, just mindful. You will need your chosen crystals, a writing utensil, paper, a candle, a fire proof vessel, and some kind of smudge.

Begin by smudging and cleansing your space, crystals, journal, and self in whatever manner suits you. Can’t use smoke? Use sound- meditation music, or even your favorite mellow playlist to set the mood. Bathing your body and cleaning your space are important as well. Full moons are for release of all kinds.

Next, light your candle and meditate with your crystals. Each crystal you use helps set your intentions, and even if you aren’t able to empty your mind of thoughts, you should be able to focus on the key properties of the crystals, and how they apply to you. The crystals pictured above are all helpful for the Aquarius Moon!

Selenite for purification and charging

Black Tourmaline for grounding and protection from negativity

Labradorite for enhanced intuition and connection to spirit and ancestors

Peach Moonstone for connection to the divine feminine; representing the fruit of the harvest

Sunstone for the joyful energy of the late summer sun

Rainbow Moonstone for connection to the energy of the moon

Pyrite for prosperity

Tiger's Eye for abundance and luck

Carnelian for passion and creativity

Fluorite for balancing the Aquarian energy

When you feel you have gathered and reflected enough, begin to write down whatever is no longer serving you in your life at the moment. Have you been anxious or fearful? Are you holding on to anger? Have you been leaning into bad habits? Write it all down.

When you have filled your paper, fold it in half several times, and carefully set it aflame with your burning candle. Once the paper is lit, you may drop it into the fire proof vessel and watch until it is nothing but smoldering ashes. You should sleep well, and wake up feeling lighter.
